Can’t you hear it baby, like thunder I know.
It’s like the magic and the passion of rock and roll.
It’s a Harley motorcycle ragin’ out of control.

Danger up ahead of you, comin’ up behind you, too.
Turn it to the left, you turn it to the right.
Now you twist the throttle up with all your might.’
From the song Dangerous off the Doobie Brothers’ Brotherhood album, written by Pat Simmons

Pat Simmons is the founder, guitarist and singer-songwriter from the legendary rock band The Doobie Brothers. Not many bands stand the test of time, but The Doobie Brothers have been producing hits for over 4 decades, selling over 30 million albums and reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The Doobie Brothers have also long been associated with the motorcycle lifestyle, from their early days playing in front of a crowded room of Hells Angels at the Chateau Liberte to rocking Sturgis for Harley-Davidson in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. But one band member embraces the motorcycle lifestyle more so than the others. Pat Simmons is a life-long gearhead. He’s been riding and wrenching on bikes almost as long as he’s been playing music. He not only has a fine collection of vintage American motorcycles, he enjoys getting his hands greasy dissecting old engines and riding is a passion. To find out just how deep that passion runs, we recently got an opportunity to talk bikes, music and the new album with Simmons. Just recently he wrote the forward to the book, The Harley in the Barn by Tom Cotter.

Kate Skylar is an ordinary seventeen-year-old with an extraordinary destiny. A virgin,

Kate suddenly finds herself pregnant with what she believes is the Son of God. But the Catholic Church is convinced Kate is carrying the Antichrist and, assisted by an artificial intelligence known as Grand Inquisitor, will stop at nothing to kill Ethan, her son.

Ethan’s only protection is Conversatio, a secret organization dedicated to the Second Coming—which may have its own dark agenda.
As Ethan grows up in anonymity, ignorant of his true identity and not knowing whom to trust, he must come to terms with his miraculous abilities and make a fateful choice that will determine the future of all

mankind. And for Kate, an equally difficult struggle looms,
as well as a mother’s devastating choice.

Burton, in his fiction debut, crafts a tightly-wound narrative with a heart-pounding plot and emotional resonance that will ring true to anyone with children of their own, all while the fate of humanity hangs in the balance.

Imprint Entertainment (“Twilight,” “Kid Cannabis”)has acquired the movie rights to “Godsent” from Richard Burton and Arcade Publishing, an imprint of Skyhorse Publishing.

Richard Burton is an accomplished attorney specializing in corporate law and commercial litigation. Growing up in New York as one of six children, he frequently immersed himself in creative writing.

Listen to the Conversation Crossroad radio program interview with Beth Hilson

In Beth’s own words:
When I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 1976, I had nowhere to turn for recipes, products or support. I attended culinary school to understand recipes so I could ask the right questions when I ate in restaurants. Little did I know that this would lead to a lifelong career making gluten-free food and serving the celiac community.

As I worked with mainstream recipes, I realized they held secrets. I call it the recipe’s DNA – – the ratio of flour to sugar, fat and liquids, wet to dry. I began to cook again, but this time everything was gluten-free.

As I began substituting gluten-free ingredients, I discovered nearly every recipe could be recreated as long as I stuck to the original ratios. Soon I was baking my way back to the tasty treats I had given up.

This launched a lifelong journey to help provide delicious and healthy food for myself and others who cannot have gluten. (As many as 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease and an estimated18 to 20 million have gluten sensitivity.)

I founded the Gluten-Free Pantry in 1993, with a line of gourmet baking mixes based on the mainstream equivalents and so tasty that no one could tell the difference. I was a pioneer, one of the first gluten-free companies to break into the market. The company was sold to Glutino in 2005 and sold again to Smart Balance this year. (My, how my little company has grown up!) But my passion for creating delicious gluten-free foods continues and it was the inspiration for Gluten-Free Makeovers and this blog.

I wear many hats in the gluten-free community – – president of the American Celiac Disease Alliance, a volunteer advocacy group that works on celiac causes such as the FDA gluten-free labeling regulations; food editor of Living Without Magazine; and creator of a weekly e-newsletter for glutenfree.com Check out Other Places To Follow Me for me details on these organizations and places I will be speaking and teaching cooking classes in the next few months.

Paul James is a 22-year veteran of the powersports industry. He started his career as a journalist and editor for enthusiast snowmobile and watercraft magazines, which led to a 5-year stint managing Arctic Cat, Inc.’s marketing communications for snowmobiles, watercraft and ATVs. For the past 14-years, he has been a mainstay in Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s product communication efforts, most recently leading Harley’s PR, social media, entertainment marketing and now consumer events teams. He is an avid outdoorsman and a passionate touring, sport riding and commuter motorcyclist who spends some of his free weekends competing in AMA Pro Racing’s Vance & Hines XR1200 road race series.

Jon Herington is the veteran touring and recording guitarist for Steely Dan, a position he continues to hold after 12years. You can find his guitar work with Steely Dan on “Two Against Nature”(both the CD and the live DVD), “Everything Must Go” as well as the Steely Dan VH1 Storytellers and the “Making of Aja” DVD from the brilliant Classic Albums series.

The JON HERINGTON BAND is currently the hard-hitting, stripped-down guitar, bass, drums power trio version of the band which is specifically designed for the club and theatre concert scene, with a blues/rock/pop vibe and an emphasis on the SONGS and the GUITAR PLAYING. There is plenty of killer guitar for fans of Jon’s playing and the lyrics are often funny in addition to being clever and compelling. Great support is supplied by a no-nonsense, take-care-of-business band featuring Dennis Espantman on bass and Frank Pagano on drums. All three band members sing, providing a much bigger sound than a typical trio. After years of playing the supporting (though highlighted) role, Jon has stepped out on his own in a major way as a singer/songwriter to not be missed.

“Herington’s voice is perfect for the songs. It’s instantly recognizable and is the ideal match for lyrics that are at turns funny, clever, sarcastic, and plaintive. The production is crisp and clean in a way that albums just aren’t anymore. In fact this is the kind of record that doesn’t exist in many places these days. It’s soulful, with a varied set of great songs that showcase a multitude of influences and let the musicians shine. And it’s easily one of the best records of the year.” John Heidt, Vintage Guitar Magazine

“Solo records by session guitarists too often hang gobs of great guitar on flimsy compositional frames,or they attempt to emphasize the songs by stinting on the expected guitar fireworks. Jon Herington’s work with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs and Michael MsDonald qualifies him as a sessioneer extrordinaire, yet he deftly avoids both traps on his fourth record “Time On My Hands”, by serving up clever, tightly constructed tunes shot through with searing solos and studded with 6-string ear candy” Michael Ross,Guitar Player Magazine

“For a player who’s normally associated with pristine tone, it’s heartening that Jon Herington still enjoys adding a big dollup of filth to his sound. …Through cascading phrases of crisp, imaginative lead guitar, Herington shows off the high-class chops he’s honed during more than a decade with the Dan.” Jamie Dickson, Guitarist Magazine

For children ages four to eight, this book was written by Julie C. Morse with her son Greg Mikrut, and draws from Greg’s own childhood cancer experiences. This positive, heartwarming story helps young children better understand cancer and treatment-related baldness, told from the perspective of a little boy who has cancer. The Moonbeam Children’s Book Award is intended to bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and to support childhood literacy and life-long reading. This award recognizes and rewards the best of these books and brings them to the attention of parents, booksellers, and librarians—and to children themselves. Midwest Book Review recently issued praise for the book:“When Billy Went Bald is about a boy who has cancer. It is cheerful, upbeat, honest, and factual. The author writes from her experience as a parent of a boy who survived his childhood cancer diagnosis and treatment. (The book) encourages children to look beyond surface differences and find a compassionate way to reach understanding and acceptance of others who may be suffering. When Billy Went Bald is an exceptional contribution to the field of children’s health and education.”

Despite differences in historical circumstances, the tragedies and triumphs of the experience are essentially the same. It is the story of untold numbers of families. It is the story of this symphony.”

Gregory Nicholas Malouf, a successful Australian businessman and entrepreneur, suffered constant abuse as a child. He consequently became a workaholic in order to run away from his past and allow himself to live the ‘perfect life’, or so he thought. He was earning triple figures each week, throwing lavish parties and could do anything or go anywhere in the world he wanted when his world collapsed. For the first time, at age fifty, he realized that his priorities were misguided – he was living a lie. He suffered from anxiety and obsessive control disorder – two of many addictions he had suffered in his life – why? Because he had not been able to confront the truth of his past. Through a genuine intent to find life abundance he has faced his past and found the truth that limited his life. Malouf will share with you his lessons on how to truly liberate your mind and body, live in the present with gratitude, consciously create the life you desire and finally find the abundance you deserve. Whether you were under-nurtured or over-nurtured, you are living with anxiety, fear or dissatisfaction, Malouf has written Silent and founded the Epsilon Healing Academy for those of you who believe what he needed to believe – that there must be a better way.
